A dentist holding an extracted tooth
An extraction is a treatment of last resort and is only carried out if necessary. They can be simple or surgical, depending on the condition of the tooth and the surrounding bone.
You should inform your dentist about your medical conditions or medications that you are on. You should also eat before the procedure.
Simple extractions
At Nene dental centre, an extraction is as painless as possible because the dentist numbs the area. However, since you will be awake, you will feel some pressure as the tooth is being removed from its surrounding bone.
It is advisable to follow all the instructions that you are given after the extraction to avoid complications.
Surgical extractions
A surgical extraction is often needed for wisdom teeth and for teeth with badly curved roots, some retained roots and in roots that are fused to the bone. Many times, these conditions can be identified on a radiograph.
This type of extraction is usually done on an appointment basis.
